A Hoosier since birth, I was born with an eye disease known as retinitis pigmentosa (RP). The symptoms are tunnel vision,  night blindness, and tunnel vision.  As a child growing up I was told that eventually I would go blind.  I now have only central vision with less than 9% peripheral vision in each eye and am considered legally blind.

I've always interested in woodworking.  A few years ago my interest turned to woodturning.  I am mostly self-taught.  Due to my vision issues what I create on my lathe takes longer than other sighted woodturners.  What began as a hobby has blossomed into a passion.  I have won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in various woodturning categories of the Elkhart County 4-H Fair Open Arts Class.  I have been accepted into the Midwest Museum of American Art’s Juried Regional Art show 2017 thru 2019 winning multiple awards.  In 2018 I was awarded an Educational Opportunity Grant from the American Association of Woodturners to expand and enrich my woodturning capabilities.

I am a member of the Michiana Woodturners Association, Grand River Woodturners Guild, and West Michigan Woodturners clubs and is a member of the American Association of Woodturners.
